Today, October 1st, President Jimmy Carter turns 100 years old! Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton would like to wish the former president and life-long supporter of Habitat a wonderful birthday! Although President Carter is Habitat for Humanity’s most famous supporter, he did not start our organization. Check out some quick facts below about President Carter’s work with Habitat for Humanity:
- President Carter first volunteered with Habitat in Americus, Georgia, in March of 1984.
- In September of 1984, President and Mrs. Carter were joined by dozens of volunteers at the first Carter Work Project in New York City.
- Dating back to 1984, President and the late Mrs. Carter worked alongside nearly 104,000 volunteers in 14 countries to build, renovate, and repair 4,390 Habitat for Humanity homes.
- In 2019, President Carter celebrated his 95th birthday on a Nashville Habitat Build site, with a blackeye!
President Carter’s support of Habitat for Humanity’s mission has been unmatched. Today we celebrate his life and all of his accomplishments!
