Dionka always dreamed of providing her four children (Di’ovian-14, Di’Nahya-11, Antonio-5, and Aniesia-3) with the stability and safety of owning their own home. For years, she rented homes, often moving every three to five years, until she found herself in a homeless shelter after surgery left her unable to work. It was at the shelter that she received the call that her current rental was available, and she was able to move her family in.
Unfortunately, her current home is not well maintained, and the neighborhood is dangerous. The past two years have even seen a few shootings. Dionka knew she needed to give her children a better life, and that’s when she reached out to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton.
For nine years, Dionka has worked as a home health aide with Constant Care Home Health Care. She loves caring for the elderly and has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Her children also have dreams for their new home, including a big yard with a basketball hoop and a space for Di’Nahya to practice her violin.
Dionka was thrilled when she learned she had been approved and was moving forward as a Habitat Homebuyer. It would be life-changing for her and her children to finally afford their own home. She has worked hard to get to this point, and she is ready for this next journey.
Dionka knows that her new home will mean stability for her family for years to come, and she is excited to be able to give back to the community that had supported her family through some of their toughest times. She is ready to start this new, exciting chapter in her life and can’t wait to see how far her dreams and determination to provide for her children will take them all. If you Volunteer on Dionka’s home build, talk to her and you will be inspired.
