Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton is excited to host a dedication ceremony for its latest build on Friday, January 24, at noon. After months of hard work, Katherine and her son will be able to move into their new home in Trotwood.
Katherine’s dream of becoming a homeowner began with a spark of inspiration from her sister, who built a house from the ground up. Seeing her sister's success fueled Katherine’s determination to create a stable and beautiful home for herself and her son. Despite challenges, she continued to hope for a place of her own where she could eventually retire. Now, because of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton, her dream is about to become a reality.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton makes homeownership possible for individuals like Katherine by selling their homes with a 0% interest mortgage. This unique partnership requires all future homebuyers to attend homeownership courses and volunteer a minimum of 275 sweat equity hours prior to purchasing the home.
This new home represents more than just a physical space for Katherine’s family; it is a dream come true. They are looking forward to living in a safe environment where the fear of gunshots is a thing of the past. Katherine envisions a space of her own where she can indulge in her love for painting. Although it may seem like a small thing, a convenient space to do laundry at home is another thing she is excited about having in her new home.
Katherine’s journey to homeownership has not been an easy one, but it has been transformative. Through her time in the program, she has been inspired to get involved in her community and learn more about her finances. These skills will help her become a successful homeowner when closing her new house.
