Committees

Committees are at the heart of what makes Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton successful!

We appreciate all the contributions of our committee members and all they do for each of these departments.  If you are interested in getting involved with Habitat for Humanity, beyond the build site, please contact us and we can match you with the group that meets your talents, and  desire to contribute!

The Family Selection Committee volunteers help determine the best candidates to accept into our Partner Family Home Ownership program.  The committee helps to identify prospective families, reviews applications and interviews applicants.  Committee members also help to develop structure and set parameters within the Partner Family program and the Family Services Department.

The Family Support Committee helps guide Partner Families through the process of earning the opportunity to purchase a Habitat for Humanity home.  The committee assesses the progress of our families and makes recommendations regarding their status in the partner family program.  The committee also works directly with our Partner families and provide support throughout the sweat equity and educational process.  Family Support Committee members receive training and assistance throughout their commitment.

Field Operations Committee develops the affiliate’s standardized house plans and advises on all phases of construction. This committee includes design, construction, and real estate professionals and people with knowledge of building materials, practices and codes. The committee is responsible for identifying and acquiring property for new construction and renovation throughout Greene and Montgomery Counties. Each site must be reviewed to ensure compliance with Habitat standards and guidelines and all local building and zoning codes.Time commitment is dependent on role taken by member, but averages about 3-5 hours per month.

This committee is currently full.

The Finance Committee supports the Finance Director in monitoring the fiscal operation of Habitat of Greater Dayton and planning for its future. Members include active and retired business people, including CPAs, accountants, bankers, and corporate executives. Time commitment of 3-6 hours per month.

The Volunteer Engagement Committee supports Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton volunteers and helps to ensure volunteers are recognized accordingly for donating their time, energy, and talent. Committee members represent Build Site volunteers, ReStore volunteers, HabiTEAM volunteer groups, and behind-the-scenes volunteers. The committee assists with recruitment; helps plan and execute the annual volunteer recognition event; and works to improve the Habitat volunteer experience. The committee also assists with special events such as the Gala, Bike & Build, and visiting mission trip groups. Committee members should be active volunteers who are willing to talk to fellow volunteers candidly, while being creative problem solvers. Time commitment of 1-3 hours per month.

Each year Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton hosts a Gala to raise funds and awareness for Habitat’s mission.  This wouldn’t be possible without our wonderful Gala Committee.  The committee plans the gala throughout the year.  They scout locations, acquire donated items for auction, secure corporate sponsorships, plan out décor, choose catering options and more.  If you like to plan events, this could be the committee for you.

The Restore provides the affiliate with working capital by which they will fund the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton.  The goal of the Restore committee is to suggest ways to increase ReStore productivity, donation procurement, and profitability.  The ReStore Committee treats all subjects related to the store including advertising and marketing opportunities, to the  consideration of new directions and retail environments. The Restore committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month.

Women Build is a national program dedicated to inspiring and empowering women to build better communities.  Each year a single mother in the Habitat homeownership program is chosen as the Women Build Family.  The committee works to raise funding and recruit volunteers to build the family’s home.  Women Build Committee is looking for women who are active in the community, enjoy event planning, can recruit volunteers, secure sponsorships and have a passion for supporting women.
