One hundred thirty-eight volunteers descended on Edgemont during this year's annual Rock the Block event, sponsored by Fifth Third Bank. Each year, the event aims to enhance the beauty and appeal of common areas, including alleys and the cemetery, fostering a renewed sense of pride and unity among residents.
Volunteers from local organizations joined forces to make a big impact on October 11th. This year's event focused on cleaning several public spaces around Edgemont, including the Green Castle Cemetery. Organizations like Lowe's sent out large groups of volunteers to tackle these clean-up efforts head-on. Other participating organizations include County Corp, The City of Dayton, Fifth Third Bank, Five Rivers Health Centers, The Greater Edgemont Community Coalition, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton, MW Metals Group, and Wright-Patt Credit Union. Their commitment to community service underscores their dedication to the betterment of Edgemont.
The event was not just a time to clean up; it was also a time to celebrate. Since the inception of Rock the Block in 2022, three new houses have been built in Edgemont by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton. The organization also took the opportunity to unveil its latest critical repair truck, sponsored by IUE-CWA. The truck, along with tools donated by Lowe's, will help Dayton Habitat continue to impact the Edgemont community and others throughout the year.
The Edgemont neighborhood eagerly anticipates the transformative impact of the Rock The Block event each year and thanks the hundreds of volunteers who have helped make an impact over the years. Rock the Block brings residents, organizations, and community leaders together in a collective effort to enhance the quality of life and instill a deep sense of pride within the community.
