Meet Tommy and his Family

For retired father Tommy, homeownership means more than having a place to call his own—it means creating a safe, stable future for his family.
A lifelong Dayton resident, Tommy has faced his share of challenges over the years. Through determination and perseverance, he has continued moving forward, always focused on providing the best life possible for his teenage son. Now, through Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton’s homeownership program, he is one step closer to achieving that dream.
Like every Habitat homebuyer, Tommy has worked hard to prepare for homeownership by completing at least 275 sweat equity volunteer hours and more than 40 hours of homeownership education. Whether volunteering in Habitat’s ReStore or participating in classes covering home maintenance, nutrition, and more, he has embraced every opportunity to learn and grow.
For Tommy, the greatest gift of homeownership is peace of mind. As the father of a nonverbal teenager, safety is always at the top of his mind. Soon, they will leave behind concerns like plumbing problems and pests, replacing them with the comfort of a home that is safe, healthy, and built to last.
Tommy is especially excited that his son will finally have a space where he can create artwork, play video games, and continue growing into the remarkable young man he is becoming. Through Habitat’s homeownership classes, Tommy has also gained the confidence to tackle repairs as they arise, giving him the knowledge and skills to protect the investment he is making for his family.
With the support of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton and generous supporters, Tommy is building more than a house. He is building stability, opportunity, and a brighter future for himself and his son—because every family deserves a safe place to call home.
