For the past 11 years, Felicia and her family have lived in an unsafe neighborhood, but things are about to change through her partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton. A devoted single mother of four, three of whom are still at home, Felicia has faced life’s challenges head-on with unwavering determination and a smile. Now that determination is leading to a new chapter for her family—one filled with promise, security, and a home to finally call their own.
As an STNA (State Tested Nursing Assistant) specializing in dementia care, Felicia spends her days providing compassion and support to others. She brings that same strength and compassion into her home, where her children enjoy hairstyling, karaoke, cooking, and spending quality time together. After losing both of her parents as a teenager, Felicia has worked tirelessly to build a life on her own and raise her family with love and resilience.
In order to purchase a home through Dayton Habitat, Felicia has had to volunteer at least 275 sweat equity hours with the organization and attend homeownership courses. The journey with Dayton Habitat is not just about building a house—it’s been about building knowledge, confidence, and a foundation for long-term success. One of the most valuable lessons Felicia has taken away from the program is understanding the importance of homeowners’ insurance—an aspect of ownership that she hadn’t previously considered in depth.
For Felicia, the dream of homeownership is about more than four walls and a roof. It’s about giving her children something they’ve never had: a safe space to grow, dream, and thrive. Her children are eagerly looking forward to having bedrooms of their own— a place where each of them can explore their interests. And for Felicia, the new home means the joy of hosting family gatherings and creating cherished memories on their very own front porch.
No matter what each family member is looking forward to the most, one thing is certain: each member is excited to live somewhere that they can be proud of.
