Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton proudly invites the community to celebrate the dedication of their 2024 Women Build. The ceremony will take place on Friday, November 22, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 6724 Sandy Dr., Trotwood OH 45426.
Through the dedicated efforts of volunteers, donors, and other community supporters, April and her sons will soon move into their new home in Trotwood. For a decade, April and her children endured the challenges of living in an unsafe neighborhood plagued by crime. In January, a fire in an adjacent abandoned building spread to her rental home, displacing her family and destroying their belongings. Despite this setback, April’s resilience, and dedication to building a better future for her children empowered her to continue to work towards her goal of owning her own home.
"To be part of a mission that brings a family closer to stability and hope is deeply rewarding," said Elizabeth Breitenstein, Market President of Fischer Homes and Chair of the 2024 Women Build. "It’s a privilege to help build a home for this remarkable woman and her children."
Through Habitat’s unique homeownership model, families like April’s achieve stability by purchasing their homes with a 0% interest mortgage. This program also empowers future homeowners to complete homeownership courses and contribute a minimum of 275 “sweat equity” volunteer hours. For April and her family, the Women Build home offers the chance to establish roots in a safe and supportive community where they can decorate their own rooms and play in their own backyard.
