Community support abounds at Faith Build Kickoff in Miamisburg

For more than four decades, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton has partnered with communities across three counties to provide affordable homeownership opportunities through our zero-interest program. But Dayton Habitat builds more than houses; we build connections, support systems, and hope.

That spirit was on full display at the recent Faith Build Kickoff in Miamisburg. Before leading the crowd of about 75 supporters in Dayton Habitat’s traditional blessing, Hope4 Miamisburg Director and city schoolteacher Sarah Pelfrey offered heartfelt words to KaCey, the future homeowner.

“I wanted to share something I don’t often talk about. I was once a single mother, too,” Sarah said. “I know the challenges that brings. So, I am here for you as you move into our community. One of the greatest reasons we’re active in Miamisburg is to help the community and ladies like you. We will love on you and help you in any way we can.”

Moments like these illustrate how Dayton Habitat supporters provide more than physical shelter—they create personal connections that help new homeowners truly make their house a home. On this day, KaCey felt that love and support deeply, sharing how her new address holds a special connection: “The first number is my mom’s birth month, and the other two numbers are her birthday. There are so many who have supported me over the years. They’re no longer with me, but I feel them here. This is definitely a gift from God and such a great opportunity.”

The Faith Build is one of Dayton Habitat’s branded builds. Faith Build challenges faith groups in Montgomery, Clark, and Greene counties to unite with community partners to build one home each year. Support can come through donations, volunteer hours, prayer, or advocacy. “We’re very excited to bring the faith community together to change somebody’s life and support them along the way,” said Habitat Development Director Dave Mauch.

The kickoff drew representatives from 12 churches across multiple counties, along with more than a dozen officials from the City of Miamisburg. Mayor Collins, who led a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially welcome KaCey and her family, reminded everyone of the community’s welcoming spirit, stating, “You’re going to find Miamisburg to be a kind, gracious, welcoming community. I remember when this site was once a supermarket. It’s exciting to see you and Habitat making it great again. What a wonderful program this is!” The Faith Build Kickoff was more than the start of a new house; it was a celebration of faith, community, and the promise of home.
