Instructions for Making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) Gift to Dayton Habitat

Thank you for making a qualified charitable distribution gift to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton! Below is a list of instructions that you can follow to make your donation!

  1. Fill out the form for your specific IRA administrator to make a qualified charitable distribution. You can do this online via the webpage you access your plan on or you can print and mail a form to the company.
  2. Fill in the required information about you and your account. You will also need to fill out information about the organization you want to make a gift to. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton's information is below.
  3. Sign and date the form.
  4. If you printed the form, you should mail it to your IRA administrator company. Otherwise, submit the form via your online portal.

Dayton Habitat always recommends you call your tax advisor to see how you can use a QCD to make a charitable donation and save on your taxes. Please allow enough time between your gift and the end of the year to allow for the processing time of your gift.

More info about QDCs:

  • You must be 70 1/2 or older to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA.
  • Gifts can be for any amount, up to a maximum of $108,000 per person ($216,000 for couples).
  • The gift does not count as income because it is paid directly from your IRA to the charity, and you will not have to pay taxes on the funds transferred in the QCD.
  • The gift must be made from a traditional IRA by your IRA administrator and sent directly to the charity. If you do not have an IRA, you may be able to convert your retirement account to an IRA and be able to make a QCD. Contact your tax advisor to see if this is possible.
  • You cannot receive anything of value, like tickets to an event, for your gift.
