Simple, Decent, and Affordable Homes
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton builds simple, decent, and affordable homes. Our homes are modest but meet the family's needs. We build 3 to 5 bedroom homes, depending on the family size. When necessary, our homes incorporate basic accessible design features, such as a zero-step entrance and wide passage doors and hallways. Houses built in partnership with families with disabilities include additional accessibility features as needed. Every home is built with the family in mind. Our homes are designed to fit in with the existing homes in the neighborhoods in which we build. All of our homes feature one thing that every Habitat child looks forward to: a safe yard to play in with their neighborhood friends.
Energy Efficient Homes
To support housing affordability, we focus on building energy efficient homes. All new homes are designed, tested, and certified to exceed municipal energy codes, and most receive HERS Ratings of 50-60. This indicates they are 40- 50% more energy efficient than comparable new homes. Some new homes may also be certified to meet Energy Star requirements. Some of the “green” features of our homes are:
- Low-E Energy Efficient Windows
- High Efficiency Furnace: 94% Efficient or Better
- Engineered Joists/Floor System
- Extensive Draft Sealing & Duct Sealing
- Programmable Thermostats Energy
- Efficient Lighting
- Insulate attics to R-40; Walls R-19 with continuous R-5 sheathing
- Advanced framing techniques to minimize waste
All these factors lead to a home that is affordable and comfortable for the homeowner.
