(Dayton, OH) - Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton invites the community to tour their newest Home at 5325 Fredonia from 4-6 p.m. The house has been rehabbed for the Matumaini family. Hubert fled the war in Burundi and Irene left family and friends behind in Africa. Both met here in Dayton and have married and now have a beautiful son. Hubert is the Vice President of the Burundi community and works hard to support their community garden and the Burundi Drummers. They are excited to move into their home and look forward to concentrating on going back to school. Hubert would like to be a teacher and Irene would like a career in nursing.
Diane Graham announced Habitat of Greater Dayton's new Open House Series as a part of a new initiative to engage the community; "We've always invited the community to the dedications of our homes as we present the keys to our families. The Open House is a new way to involve the community and let them see firsthand how Habitat is strengthening communities through homeownership."
Starting with the home on Fredonia every dedication will be preceded the night before with an open house from 4-6 p.m. Volunteers, donors, neighbors, and anyone interested in learning more about Habitat is welcome to tour the home to learn how the homes are built, how to qualify for homeownership, or how they can become involved through a variety of volunteer opportunities.
Every home dedication in 2014 will feature an Open House tour where the community can learn about our energy efficient homes, qualifications for home ownership, and volunteer opportunities.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton will be officially welcoming 14 new families into the program on July 19th. There is currently a request for Family Advocate volunteers who will mentor the families through the homeownership process so they can become successful homeowners like the Matumaini's. If you are interested in joining the family advocate team please contact Gail Basine, Family Service Director or Marsha Martin, Family Service Coordinator at 937-586-0860.
